I got all hyped up for the New Year’s potluck at Steve’s, because I could finally try out my dad’s Olympus XA. I also have many rolls of unused Agfa film that are no longer available for sale.

Much to my dismay, I saw spots on the lens I couldn’t get rid of. May it be a scratch or fungus, they were on the inside. I googled for repair and disassembly instructions.

Well, maybe not…
Sigh…I can get upset easily when things like this happen. It is a really slick and classic compact camera.

There is a fine line between “I like taking pictures” and “I like photography”. I have always wanted to level up and jump onto the latter. A dear friend recommended a book to me, National Geographic Photography Field Guide 2nd Edition : Secrets to Making Great Pictures. I borrowed it from the library, together with a couple more NG Photography books, and it is definitely a keeper! It is easy to understand and it gets straight to the point. Highly recommended.

I decided to give the moldy camera a try, let’s see how the party pictures turn out. If the spot did no harm to the pictures, I will try cross-processing next time when I travel.
