Dropbox (is dying, too)

A few weeks ago, KC and I started making a RSS tool called “Dropbox”. The goal of the project was to create an easy-to-use and intuitive tool for delivering files. Dropbox is basically a FTP client that updates the RSS feed for you when your files are uploaded. Say you are working on some graphic design project and you want to show your client the draft you have been working on, you can give the client your RSS feed and he/she will get notified whenever you upload a file.

This project was a great exercise for usability design. The interface is inspired by AppZapper, a Mac software that, IMO, has the simplest and most efficient interface. You drag files to the drop zone, press Post and it does the rest. The title and description boxes are hidden unless you choose to customize them. KC suggested the menu should be taken away all together and they can be replaced by icons.

This is yet another abandoned project, but luckily the basic functionality was implemented before I got hired.

The site is dying…

This blog is dying…kind of.

There are things I could blog about, like my new job and the stuff I do at work, but I don’t feel like enclosing too much personal details here. That said, I don’t mind telling anyone.

I could update WP-Wetfloor like I promised, but it is a tiny weeny plugin after all, who needs so many features. That said, I will still release the next version.

I could blog about my recent adventures in Ruby on Rails, but I haven’t made anything exciting to brag about. That said, any Vancouverite wana go to VanRuby workshop with me?

I could blog about links I visited, but those who subscribe to the feed get my daily duggs. All the new stuff I find are from digg anyway. (Are you still on /.? C’mon, digg surpassed /.’s traffic long time ago!) That said, I would like to name TechCrunch as my recent favourite website.

It feels wrong not to have some pictures in my post. Here are some random ones.

iPod Nano Arrived!
I got a free nano for opening a bank account and I am loving it. It is one of those things that I could afford and should have bought earlier, consider the amount of time I spend listening to podcasts.

Propeller (mod)
iPhoto magic.

zebra-crossing
The most viewed photo on my flickr. The ark shape building is where I did my internship and met the Gifu Gang.

I always dream about taking this site down and redesign it from scratch. You know, knock off the frame, bigger fonts, cleaner layout, more Web 2.0 friendly….
