Countdown 2007 @ Zojoji Temple, Tokyo

After spending a few days with my parents in Hong Kong, I flew to Tokyo on the night of New Year’s Eve for the countdown. It was one of the most memorable countdowns I have had.
For the first time ever, I managed to go to my hotel from the airport without taking any limobus or express train. It was taihen to travel with huge and heavy baggage on the really crowded local trains, but I did it. After I arrived and checked in at my hotel at Ikebukuro, I wasted an hour to watch the very tacky “Kouhaku Uta Gassen” show (Red and White Song Battle) that takes place annually on New Year’s Eve for the past 50+ years. I missed the one in 2003 (when I was doing my co-op japan internship), so this made it up.


After a quick dinner, I met up with a friend at Zojoji Template, located at the foot of Tokyo Tower, for the 2007 countdown. (Not) Everyone was given a helium balloon tagged with a wish card.

10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1! Lo and behold, everyone let go of the balloons and said “SUGOI~”.
