WP Wetfloor Broken (sort of) in WordPress 2.1

The Wetfloor button does not show in on the new Visual Editor (Rich-text) tool in Wordpress 2.1. The Ella upgrade broke most of my other plugins, too. I don’t have plans to fix it yet. Girls got stuff to do, you know. Thanks to Darren for the heads up.

I apologize for the lack of updates. I haven’t had much time (and will) to work on this since _____. Enough people have contacted me about the Wetfloor button not showing on their quicktags bar, so I rewrote that part of the code. I also added rich-text editor support.

Hopefully this version will work for more people. Cheers!

Almost forgot, thanks to Brian (a.k.a maccougar) for testing the pre-release. You can visit his site at: http://www.cougarandhusky.com/

According to September’s web stats, 1/3 of this site’s visitors were referred by 37signals, the company that offers the Ruby on Rails framework and other Web 2.0 services like Ta-da list and Basecamp. My Wetfloor plugin was briefly mentioned in the article “Reflections are the new drop shadows“, except it wa under the name GlassyFloor. Now that I think about it, GlassyFloor is much better than WetFloor. WetFloor implies something happened.

Dropbox (is dying, too)

A few weeks ago, KC and I started making a RSS tool called “Dropbox”. The goal of the project was to create an easy-to-use and intuitive tool for delivering files. Dropbox is basically a FTP client that updates the RSS feed for you when your files are uploaded. Say you are working on some graphic design project and you want to show your client the draft you have been working on, you can give the client your RSS feed and he/she will get notified whenever you upload a file.

This project was a great exercise for usability design. The interface is inspired by AppZapper, a Mac software that, IMO, has the simplest and most efficient interface. You drag files to the drop zone, press Post and it does the rest. The title and description boxes are hidden unless you choose to customize them. KC suggested the menu should be taken away all together and they can be replaced by icons.

This is yet another abandoned project, but luckily the basic functionality was implemented before I got hired.
