One of my New Year’s Resolutions is stop going to Japan, at least not more than once a year. Facebook is not helping.
A few weeks ago I went to see the Festival of Lights fireworks finale with Steve and Jon, and once again, I was reminded of how crappy the fireworks is in Canada (I still enjoyed my time with the monkeys). I have been to the July 4 one in Washington and a few others, but they were not any better.
Here is a clip I took in Japan. It was not even a huge event in their standard, and they have fireworks on most weekends during summer.
Here is Hong Kong’s Handover 10th Anniversary fireworks.
Why is the fireworks in Asia so much better?

Sasha and The Noob are back with their third season of Talkin’ Funny. It is the right amount of humor I look for after a week of work. Similar to chill out music, it goes well with a cup of mango slush.
There have been words saying YouTube can potentially destroy the mainstream media and I tend to agree. The reality seems to be the opposite. YouTube has started various partnership with the big TV stations, and I have seen a couple TV shows (Leno, Good Morning America) with their special YouTube segments. I guess YouTube owns all the user-uploaded videos, and can sell them for big bucks.
On Leno, they showed a clip ripped from Japanese TV. While I enjoy J-TV a lot, I don’t get how this is legal on national television.
What annoys me the most is 9 out of 10 of the clips they pick are old, forwarded, IM’d and dugg.
(I don’t feel like updating this site anymore. Don’t be surprised if it gets abandoned in the future. Meanwhile, I have started working on myfullname.com, but it will mainly serve as a portfolio.)
Anyone remotely interested in cartoons/drawing/doodling would like Diary of a Cartoonist by Scott Johnson (also known as showbiz pictureboy) on ExtraLife.com. The videos are only 3-5 minutes long and you can see how he creates his cartoons using pencil, Sharpie and Photoshop.

Some of his video also made it to the front page of YouTube. Here is one called Chicken Dirt Bath. If you subscribe to the feed on his site, you will also get the secret Bill Gates and Boobies episode.

Talkin’ Funny is a hilarious live show that airs on Chicago Public Access TV, and all the episodes are available for download on their site. I linked to their site before, I thought I would do it again to show how much I love their show.
This is a continuation of the last post. I spent the last few days organizing my gigabytes of files, and here are some old videos re-encoded into MP4 (smaller size, better quality). These are not new and I have posted them in other places before, so you might have seen them already (skip to the end). Quicktime or VLC required.
“Chashu mo nai” (No more roasted pork) starred by Steve, John and me. This video is about the first day of our trip to Hokkaido back in March, 2004. We went to a red light district and spent 50mins(?) waiting in line for some famous ramen. We were told that the Chashu ramen was sold out and hence the title. [4 min 50 sec, 13.5 MB MP4]
Chicken won’t stop singing and my mom says, “Eat your dinner!”. We tried to teach him “Shalala lala”, but he only caught onto the “lalala” part. [30 sec, 1.3 MB MP4]
Paragliding in Kyushu, to be honest I had no idea what the coach was saying. I could never remember left/right in Japanese, not even now. [27 sec, 1.2 MB MP4]
For more interesting and better produced videos, go to macTV Videocast and subscribe to their feed. They have lots of vintage Apple commercials, as well as parodies and animations.
iMac Love Story: A CG clip about an interracial and romantic relationship.
A really old Apple II commercial.
