Kindergarten-5Handwritten Blog

Using the SiuyeeWrites font.

Here is the human readable version, just in case:

One of my earliest memories is writing endless pages of copybook in kindergarten. I remember getting caught for not following the stroke orders and the teacher made me redo my homework. It’s not like I didn’t know how. There were little arrows on the page showing the stroke order, but I found it faster to do it my way. I would flip through the pages and fill out all the vertical strokes in all the numbers and alphabets (1, 4, 7, 9, B, D, E, F..), and then I would flip to the first page again and do a pass on the horizontal strokes. Everyone was working on the “B” pages, but I had the “K” pages half done. The teacher was right and that is why my handwriting is so horrible. My Chinese/Kanji writing is even worse. Since I didn’t follow the stroke orders when I learned the words, I have to construct a mental image of the word before I write it. “There is a box in the bottom, one on the right with a a cross inside, and then there is water on the side.”. Whenever there is a box I just draw a circle, because a box has four strokes and a circle only has one.

I Did This and That in San Fran…

What else did I do in San Fran other than going to Yosemite?

Apple @ MacWorld 09'

I went to my first but Apple’s last MacWorld. Microsoft was there, Google was there, so were the 10 million companies that make iPhone accessories. I hopped onto the Party/Sightseeing/Open bar double decker sponsored by some iPhone app, then I went to the Museum of Modern Art nearby.

Butterflies Inside the Green House

I really enjoyed The California Academy of Sciences. It is an all-in-one science world + space centre + aquarium, but it is not a kiddie land like The Exploratorium or The Aquarium of the Bay.

The Palace of Fine Arts

That implies I went to those two places. I did. I stayed with my friend who lives in Marina, which is a really nice neighbourhood. The Exploratorium is only 5-minutes walk away. Right next to it is The Palace of Fine Arts, which I took a picture of at night with my tripod. The Aquarium of the Bay is conveniently located near Fisherman’s Wharf, where I took the ferry to Alcatraz.

Alcatraz Island is a must-go, more so than the Golden Bridge I would say. Don’t miss the audio tour!

I took pictures of the Golden Bridge from where I stayed. I went underneath it while I was on a sightseeing cruise. Then I thought I gotta walk it, so I did.

Kara's Cupcakes

I ate all these: Kara’s cupcakes, sushi from Yoshi’s, seafood risotto and goat cheese pizza from Emporio Rulli Gran Caffe, In-N-Out Burger, shrimp & crab cocktail and Boston Clam Chowder from Fisherman’s Wharf.

Hmm..that’s about it. If you want to see more, go to the Flickr collection. There were a few places I forgot to take pictures of, maybe I will do that next time.

Hiding Behind the Bush
This guy hides behind the bush and scares people to make $$$.

Aside from loosing 30% of the readership on this blog, not doing the daily photos also means I am not posting personal updates as often. Now I realized Project 366 was a way for my parents and friends to find out where I am and what I am up to. I received a lot of “Where are you now?”, “When are you going back to Canada?”, “Are you in Japan?”, “Have you quit your job and moved to the states” kind of emails while I was away last week. When I told people I went to San Francisco, the overall response was “Whaaaat?”.

I didn’t go to Japan last Christmas because it cost too much. Although, after experiencing the never-ending snow season for the first time in Vancouver, the $1600 seemed to be justifiable.

Anyway, my extended holiday was fantastic. I went to San Francisco on a Wednesday night and came back on the following Tuesday. I did a lot of sightseeing (too many Golden Bridge photos to come), went to my first Macworld and visited the Yosemite National Park. I have less time to procrastinate on uploading photos this time because I am heading back in March for training.
