The first time I went to Nikko, 5 years ago, everything was under construction and there was absolutely nothing to see. I did not have a chance to visit during my internship, so I had to go this time.
I stayed at two very different business hotels while I was in Tokyo. The first being the very-popular-among-tourists Toyoko-Inn at Ikebukuro Kita-Guchi. This is the third time I stayed there and I highly recommend it. 7140 yen per night for a single room is a great deal for the service they offer (super clean+internet+breakfast).
It is not omg!-cheap (see the next one behind the cut) compare to other business hotels, but it still beats staying at a “regular” hotel that starts at 15,000 yen. Most people I saw were there for the Fukubukuro business anyway.

If I continue to update my site at the current rate (1 post per week at best), it will take another two months to finish writing about my New Year Japan trip. This post was originally dedicated to the Japanese New Year’s Day shopping spree phenomenon and the art of Fukubukuro (fortune bags), now it’s a mesh up of all the Tokyo photos.
After spending a few days with my parents in Hong Kong, I flew to Tokyo on the night of New Year’s Eve for the countdown. It was one of the most memorable countdowns I have had.
I upgraded my flash video player and it uses the new Adobe flash player, instead of the old Macromedia one. Have you upgraded yet?
During my short visit to Hong Kong, I got to go to the Bird Garden with my parents and Chicken the Parrot. Chicken kicked so many bird butts. Go check out the album on flickr.
