Obsessions

Using a random girl photo as my blog header is odd, I admit.

Two unrelated friends I met at different occasions thought the little girl in the header image is me, and both said it has something to do with what the girl is eating.

C’mon!

FYI, my obsession with fish sausages is over and I have been sober for at least two years. The saddest thing is, AFAIK, Glico doesn’t make GunGun Sausage anymore. I couldn’t find any in Japan, Hong Kong or Vancouver.

More site updates:
CSS is a beast to deal with if you don’t use it that often. It took me so long to fix some of the many formatting issues. Clicking on Comments did not take you to the comment section because a <div> was missing. The new AJAX flickr plugin I wanted to use on the sidebar was not working because new WordPress likes to wipe out session variables.

As much as I like the original theme, the html/css syntax is pretty messed up (using <h1234> to format text) and I have been rewriting it bit by bit. These changes might not be visible to visitors, but as a software girl monkey I could not resist keeping the code sanitized.

Site So Broken

Am I the only one who has forgotten about this site?
I never finished sorting out the photos from my Japan trip. One of the excuses being I did not want to upload the pictures until I gave this site a new look.
I did started working on the new theme, but like an idiot I overwrote my work and lost all the changes. To top that, I also lost my original “siuyee” theme. That was why this site has been using the very plain newspaper theme for the past few weeks.

I have had it (fixing the site) on my weekend to-do list for so long, but it has been deferred and deferred so many times. I am sick of my lazy self.

I decided to go “agile” with it and upload whatever I have for now. Bare with me, I know lots of stuff are broken, but I will fix them bit by bit (well, until I accidentally delete my work again).

So, here we go, a not-close-to-done new theme.

I will upload the New Year’s Eve photo soon, I promise (again). If you don’t see them by this weekend, you can burn my camera collection.

I upgraded my flash video player and it uses the new Adobe flash player, instead of the old Macromedia one. Have you upgraded yet?

The site is dying…

This blog is dying…kind of.

There are things I could blog about, like my new job and the stuff I do at work, but I don’t feel like enclosing too much personal details here. That said, I don’t mind telling anyone.

I could update WP-Wetfloor like I promised, but it is a tiny weeny plugin after all, who needs so many features. That said, I will still release the next version.

I could blog about my recent adventures in Ruby on Rails, but I haven’t made anything exciting to brag about. That said, any Vancouverite wana go to VanRuby workshop with me?

I could blog about links I visited, but those who subscribe to the feed get my daily duggs. All the new stuff I find are from digg anyway. (Are you still on /.? C’mon, digg surpassed /.’s traffic long time ago!) That said, I would like to name TechCrunch as my recent favourite website.

It feels wrong not to have some pictures in my post. Here are some random ones.

iPod Nano Arrived!
I got a free nano for opening a bank account and I am loving it. It is one of those things that I could afford and should have bought earlier, consider the amount of time I spend listening to podcasts.

Propeller (mod)
iPhoto magic.

zebra-crossing
The most viewed photo on my flickr. The ark shape building is where I did my internship and met the Gifu Gang.

I always dream about taking this site down and redesign it from scratch. You know, knock off the frame, bigger fonts, cleaner layout, more Web 2.0 friendly….

Flickr and Potluck Photos

Flickr is a Toy!

I got tired of how little interaction I could get from my old Gallery and decided to pay for a Flickr pro account. The most appealing feature of Flickr is its rapidly developed API (and the Web 2.0 user experience comes in the second), and that is probably why there are so many third-party flickr toys online. It’s so much fun just to read the developer forums and learn about different ways to interact with it.
Here’s a script to migrate from Gallery 1 to Flickr. I have not finished my switch process yet, there is something in the script that I want to change.

Potluck Photos

I have sort of posted these photos before, and here they are again on my new album.
